Incorporating Different Cultures into Your Wedding Day

Updated: Apr 24, 2019

When it comes time to plan the big day, many couples are faced with the task of blending in different backgrounds and traditions in a meaningful way.

When your roots are impeded in the traditions of more than one culture, how do you honor both? Wedding planning often begins with a question: What is important to me?

The marriage traditions of some cultures can be traced so far back into history that it is hard to classify what is typical or traditional for that culture.

So, let's consider the modern couple looking to add a bit of tradition to their wedding - what are some examples of tasteful ways they can add a nod to tradition that translates elegantly and seamlessly?

Outfit

Wearing a traditional outfit from that culture is an exceptional way to embrace and honor that culture. If you're looking for a reason for a wardrobe change for the reception, perhaps consider wearing something beautiful and to taste for the ceremony.

Accessories

Along with traditional outfits, many cultures also have accessories that the bride or groom could wear that can tastefully represent that culture.

Food

Don't overlook the food. Your guests will certainly appreciate a change from the traditional food served at weddings. Even a desert table can be revamped to reflect the cultures of both the bride and groom. Every culture has their own dishes, so this is an easy area to research and go nuts.

The Extras

It can be hard to find meaningful traditions that can be incorporated into your wedding day, but the key is to think from the big things all the way down to the small. Even things like the utensils being used for the reception might be able to enriched by tradition.
